Viva and “My Forest Armenia” create a new forest on 1.5 hectares

Reforestation efforts continue on the high slopes of Lernajur community. Viva supports in a consistent way to the efforts of “My Forest Armenia” to expand forest coverage in this area. From the four years of collaboration, the last two have been dedicated to the mountainous landscapes of the Lori region. This approach is based not on arbitrary decisions, but on strategic and long-term vision: vegetation-deprived slopes, under the impact of climate change, are at high risk of landslides. The newly planted forests, in addition to providing numerous ecological benefits, will also serve as natural regulators and prevent environmental disasters. video

The newly selected 1.5-hectare area in Lernajur is a continuation of the forest created under last year’s program. The program provides income opportunities for local communities during three seasons of the year. This autumn, around 5600 native tree species, such as oak, wild pear, wild apple, hornbeam, maple, birch, and several types of shrubs, are being planted, both with closed and open root systems. The partnership between Viva and “My Forest Armenia” yields multilayered results, including ecological restoration, social impact, and educational value.

“We are expanding the forested areas that serve as the lungs of our country, striving to prevent desertification, support the preservation of water resources, and combat landslides. It is also important that this project provides seasonal employment. The diversity of saplings helps create a comfortable habitat for wildlife, fostering human-nature coexistence. In general, responsible attitude toward everything around us lies at the heart of ‘green thinking,’” said Armen Avetisian, General Director of Viva.

Each resident involved in the reforestation becomes a kind of “ambassador” in their family and community, spreading the principles of “green thinking” among the younger generation.

“Human activity causes harm to nature every day, which means our care must also be continuous. Viva’s consistency shows that the company truly understands the role and responsibility of business in social and environmental issues. Reforestation addresses both long-term and short-term challenges: currently, 150 people are involved in the seasonal work,” said Lilith Martirosyan, Deputy Director of “My Forest Armenia” NGO.

From the very beginning of its operations, Viva has implemented various environmental initiatives. Several years ago, it began its cooperation with “My Forest Armenia.” Over the course of four years, the partners have planted about 43600 trees across three communities in the Lori region, covering a total of 14.5 hectares. When selecting the sites, factors such as humidity, soil quality, location, and climate conditions were carefully considered to ensure the best conditions for future forest growth. According to monitoring results conducted by “My Forest Armenia” the outcomes are impressive, showing an average 70% survival rate, reaching up to 90% in parts of the afforestation sites.
