imID acquires Mobile ID system from Viva, opening a new era for Armenia’s digital identity

On 28 July 2025, imID and Viva officially announced the full transfer of the Mobile ID system, developed and implemented by Viva, to imID. The acquisition took place during an official signing ceremony attended by the company heads, Karen Mkoyan (imID) and Armen Avetisian (Viva).

The acquisition of Mobile ID means that the core technology of Armenia’s digital identity will now be managed by imID – a centralized, unifying, and strategically important platform. This change allows us to consolidate all three telecommunications operators and ten leading banks into a single national infrastructure.

“Viva is transferring its technological expertise and extensive experience to imID, believing that under this new structure, Mobile ID will expand more broadly and gain nationwide significance. This is an important step towards digitalization of Armenia,” noted Armen Avetisian.

Founded in 2024 by banks and telecommunications companies, imID operates as a Trust Service Provider with the aim of creating a modern digital identity ecosystem. The acquisition of Mobile ID also lays the foundation for service modernization and the introduction of innovative solutions, making secure digital identification and electronic signatures available to all citizens of Armenia.

“We are preparing a comprehensive package of services that will bring not only technological modernization but also significant progress toward building a digital society. The Mobile ID solution acquired from Viva, already integrated by the telecom operators Ucom and Team Telecom Armenia, will be jointly transformed into an accessible, fast, and secure identity verification tool for everyone — across state, private, and individual levels,” said Karen Mkoyan.
