The number of solar-powered base stations of Viva reaches 48: 606 500 kWh of energy and annual savings of AMD 25 350 000

7 more solar-powered base stations launched

At the heart of Viva’s strategy, both its business operations and leadership, along with the use of green technologies, are equally important. This reflects a responsible approach to both the country and society, as well as an opportunity for sustainable development. For years, Viva has applied this principle in its infrastructure development, expanding the number of beneficiaries who benefit from its results.

By December 2024, 41 solar photovoltaic stations, operating on different principles, had been built. At the beginning of the year, 7 more solar stations were commissioned, bringing the total 48. A significant portion of the existing solar stations operate in parallel with the electrical distribution network (on grid). Based on the area’s characteristics, there are independent (off grid) solar stations that store the energy produced by solar panels in battery systems and use it during unfavorable weather conditions.

The company’s General Director, Armen Avetisian, attended the launch of the new solar station in the Aragatsotn region.

Our years of experience and the excellent results we’ve achieved across various areas allow us to confidently say that building base stations with solar panels is beneficial in every way. This is not just about adopting new technologies, it’s also about addressing global warming through environmental protection, including reducing emissions. And when we factor in the savings - reduction of electricity costs and ability to provide connectivity in different areas due to energy independence – we get a clearer insight. After all, solar energy is renewable and inexhaustible. Considering all of this, we continue to equip our stations with solar panels in different regions,” Viva’s General Director Armen Avetisian said.

The solar stations built over the years in different regions of the country deliver significant environmental and energy-saving results. Last year, 41 solar plants (with a rated capacity of 438 kW) produced approximately 540,000 kWh of electricity. In monetary terms, this saving amounts to approximately 22 million 600 thousand drams (excluding VAT). With the new solar systems that have been commissioned and are still under construction, these results will be significantly improved.

As a result of the operation of Viva’s solar photovoltaic systems, the volume of carbon dioxide emissions is reduced, along with the number of trees cut down and the use of diesel fuel. According to the data recorded in 2024, 44,244 liters of diesel fuel were saved, 538 tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) were not emitted into the atmosphere.

Based on internationally accepted standards, this is equivalent to the amount of oxygen produced annually by 29,435 trees.

Work is ongoing in 2025 too.
